About this event

Maria Hinojosa spent nearly 20 years documenting with David Luis “Suave” Gonzalez, who was incarcerated for a crime he was convicted of at the age of 17. The Pulitzer-Prize-winning podcast ‘Suave’ tells the story of that relationship and Suave’s life before, during, and after being released from prison. We hear from both Maria and Suave about documenting this experience, about the ways their relationship has changed through the work, and how ‘Suave’ fits into a larger trend of podcasts engaging with incarceration in the United States.
